He said there was the need for all to contribute their quota towards the development of the country.

The Asantehene announced this after he had received the keys to a mobile library van from the Ghana International Bank Foundation at the Manhyia Palace.

The presentation coincided with the cerebration of Akwasidae at the Manhyia Palace.

Donation

The bank also presented 40 computers and their accessories, 40 printers, cinema equipment and a generating set valued at GH¢250,000 to support the operations of the mobile library, in addition to a cheque for £11,131.86 to the Otumfuo Charity Foundation.
The donation represented proceeds from a special charity fundraising held to support the Otumfuo mobile learning project.

Commendation

The Asantehene expressed appreciation to the bank for the support and challenged it to continue to support the development of communities.

The Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr Joe Mensah, said the bank recognised that education should meet the needs of a variety of learners.

He said Information and Communications Technology (ICT) was important in the national effort to reduce illiteracy and poverty.
The Executive Director of the Otumfuo Charity Foundation, Dr Thomas Agyarko-Poku, told the Daily Graphic that the donation by the bank would enhance the delivery of ICT education to deprived communities.

Benefit

The mobile library project has 18 desktop computers, 30 laptops and hundreds of reading materials.

Since the inception of the Otumfuo mobile library project, more than 6000 pupils in 10 communities in five districts in the Ashanti Region have benefitted from ICT training.

It focuses on improving learning conditions of children by providing basic academic resources such as reading books and computer lessons (ICT) to pupils in primary, junior and senior high schools.
