Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Naoto Nikai, said Japan was concerned about the Ebola outbreak in some West African countries, for which reason the donation had been made to help Liberia curb the spread of the disease.

“Today’s presentation is in line with our objective to assist countries affected by Ebola and also assure them that they are not alone in the fight against this deadly disease,” he said.

Countries affected by the Ebola disease are Guinea, Libera, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and lately, Senegal which recorded its first case last week.

Mr Nikai urged the Liberian Government to utilise the items effectively, and further stated that Japan would not relent in its efforts to support countries facing the Ebola predicament.

An official of the Liberian Embassy, Ms Musu J. Ruhle, who received the consignment on behalf of her government, thanked the Japanese Government for the support.

She said the Liberian government had taken measures to control the spread of the disease.

Ms Ruhle thanked the government of Ghana for allowing the country to be used as a transit point to deliver the items to Liberia.
