KKD gets bail at last, GH₵20,000 + two sureties is bond

Troubled broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwa has been granted bail on grounds of ill-health by the High Court in Accra ahead of his appearance at the Kaneshie Magistrate's Court on January 22 where he faces rape charges.

The court posted a GH₵20,000 bail bond with two sureties to be justified, following submissions to the court by his counsel that he needed to seek medical care ahead of his court appearance.

He had been in the custody of the police while at least two previous bail applications had been turned down after his arrest on December 27 for allegedly raping a 19-year-old student. He has denied the allegation.

The police have admitted he has been receiving medical care at the Police Hospital in Accra after he reported ill. Meanwhile latest developments suggest he could walk free following the withdrawal of interest in the case by his accuser.
