Authorities at the hospital have said they will need about 72 hours to decongest the Polyclinic as it is inundated with cholera patients.

A statement signed by an Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, Gladys Ansong, said the polyclinic has since April this year recorded over 923 cholera cases, out of which nine have died.

According to her, the Child Health Department of the hospital has received 34 cholera cases with no deaths.

“Due to the huge number of cases received at the Polyclinic, officials have had to turn the Outpatient Department (OPD) and corridors into a makeshift clinical bay. Some cholera patients are therefore receiving treatment on benches, chairs, wheelchairs and any available spot,” she said.

She added that the hospital was taking steps to decongest the Polyclinic and advised the general public to observe and undertake hygienic practices to avoid getting infected with cholera.
