Lands Ministry to revoke licences of 50 large-scale mining firms over regulatory breaches

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced plans to revoke the licences of 50 large-scale mining companies found to have breached regulatory requirements.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Communications Directorate, it was explained that the decision follows a rigorous review of large-scale mining operations currently being undertaken by a special committee established for that purpose.

At the direction of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the committee has released the first list of 50 companies affected by the exercise.

The identified breaches include holding mining leases without valid operating permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Water Resources Commission (WRC).

The Ministry explained that the action forms part of a broader, multi-pronged government strategy aimed at addressing illegalities and regulatory non-compliance within the mining sector.

It added that the ongoing review is intended to ensure that mining activities at all levels are carried out in strict adherence to approved protocols, environmental safeguards, and due processes, in line with national laws and best practices.
