President Mahama to commission Gold Board task force on July 8

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has announced that President John Dramani Mahama will commission the Gold Board Task Force on July 8, 2025.

The task force forms part of intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal gold trading and smuggling operations across the country.

Mr Gyamfi made this known at a press briefing in Accra, held to announce the full implementation of the new gold trading licensing regime.

The Task Force, which will be inaugurated at the National Security Secretariat (Blue Gate) in Accra, will be vested with powers equivalent to those of police officers. Its primary mandate is to curb gold smuggling, illegal trading, and market manipulation in the gold sector.

“This specialised security unit will collaborate with an intelligence network that has already been deployed nationwide to monitor and disrupt the operations of illicit gold traders and smugglers,” Mr Gyamfi said.

He added that the Task Force’s operations will play a critical role in safeguarding national revenue and ensuring that Ghana derives maximum economic benefit from its mineral resources.
