Manhyia: Otumfuo set to announce outcome of Bawku peace talks amid tight security

Security has been intensified at the Manhyia Palace as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, concludes mediation efforts between the two factions involved in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

A combined security detail of more than 100 personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces has been deployed to the palace, where a decision on the decades-old dispute is expected to be taken.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead mediation efforts. The mandate was later reaffirmed and expanded by the current President, John Dramani Mahama, with the aim of bringing a lasting resolution to the persistent crisis.

The Asantehene is expected to meet the two disputing groups, the Mamprusis and the Kusasis, together as part of his final attempt to restore peace and stability to the once-vibrant Bawku township.

It remains unclear whether Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will personally announce the final decision or whether it will be communicated through the Presidency.

Officials at the Manhyia Palace remain tight-lipped about how the Asantehene intends to convey the outcome of this critical process to the nation.
