Speaking to media practitioners in Bolgatanga after the meeting, the Upper East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Simon Afeku, expressed worry about the situation but said the police were working on modalities to clamp down on individuals who possessed illegal firearms and other offensive weapons.

He further advised the two factions to use dialogue to resolve their differences and not to resort to violence.

He said the REGSEC was working tirelessly to bring to book perpetrators of the violent act which occurred last Saturday.

He said a combined team of police and military personnel were still on the ground to ensure adequate security.

Meanwhile, members of the REGSEC, led by the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Daniel Syme, have visited the victims who sustained gunshot wounds at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital to assess their condition.

Two of the seven persons who sustained various degrees of wounds in last Saturday’s shooting incident have been treated and discharged.

Four out of the remaining five are in stable condition and responding to treatment, while one is still in critical condition.
