New GH₵350 ordinary 32-page passport booklet fee takes effect Thursday, November 13

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that passport application fees for the ordinary 32-page booklet will drop from GH₵500 to GH₵350, effective Thursday, November 13, 2025.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made the announcement via Facebook on Sunday, November 9, 2025, confirming that the 30 per cent price cut for the ordinary 32-page passport booklet is now ready for implementation.

Mr Ablakwa first announced the reduction on the floor of Parliament on March 13, 2025, following instructions from President John Dramani Mahama to make passports more affordable and accessible to all Ghanaians.

At the time, Mr Ablakwa stated, “The government recognises concerns about the affordability of the new passport and is committed to ensuring that the cost remains reasonable while maintaining high security standards.”

The implementation of the new fee required Parliament to amend the Fees and Charges Act, which has now been completed, allowing the reduction to take effect.

According to the Minister’s announcement, the courier service fee has already been factored into the GH₵350, meaning applicants will not pay any additional charges when their passports are delivered.

“When they deliver your passport, all you have to do is verify your identity with your Ghana Card and sign. You are not to pay even one cedi more,” Mr Ablakwa said.

Processing times have been reduced to 15 working days for regular service and three days for expedited applications.

Mr Ablakwa also revealed that Ghana has completely phased out the old biometric passports and replaced them with modern chip-embedded versions that meet international standards.

The Ministry maintains 24-hour operations for passport applications, with delivery services covering all 16 regions of Ghana. The government plans to have functional passport application centres in all regions by December 2025.
