New Tufohene for Akwamufie

A new Tufohene of the Osomanyawa of Akwamufie, Nana Bekai Ahenfie, has been installed at Akwamufie in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region.

Known in private life as Prince Godfried Eugene Gyechie, the new Tufohene, Nana Gyamera-Gyechie I, was born on September 29, 1969 to Oheneba Godfried Eugene Kwabena Gyechie and Lady Honora.

He is married to Lady Simone and they have two children; Princess Eliena Abena Nyameba, 12, and Princess Sarai Nana Yaa Safoa, 8.

Nana Gyamera Gyechie is a graduate of the Westminster University where he studied Law. He is an ex-politician and works with Barratt Developments PLC, one of the largest residential property development companies in the United Kingdom.

Nana Gyamera-Gyechie is a councillor in the United Kingdom.

He is the first black and ethnic minority Liberal Democrat to be elected in the Borough of Lewisham and is also the first black and ethnic minority councillor to be elected to represent the black Heath Ward in Lewisham.

Nana Gyamera-Gyechie held a seat on the executive of the Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrats Board for nine years where he was elected as the treasurer; a post he held for five years until he resigned because he was summoned home to Ghana to take up the position of Tufohene.

Traditionally, the Tufohene is the advisor to the chief and his elders and also has the responsibility of settling disputes among the people.

Swearing the oath of allegiance to the Abusuapanin at a ceremony at the Bekai Ahenfie last Thursday, Nana Gyamera-Gyechie pledged to serve the elders and the people to promote peace, unity and the development of the area.

He also pledged to support the vision of the queenmother, Nana Asaa Safoa II, to give children in the area quality education and help make Akwamufie a better place.
