NIA clearing backlog of printed Ghana Cards, applicants urged to collect them from district offices
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced an exercise to clear a backlog of Ghana Cards it has printed but the applications are yet to receive them.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 7, 2025, the NIA urged applications to pick their cards from the various district offices.
The move to clear the backlog of Ghana Cards, is part of the NIA’s effort to ensure every eligible Ghanaian is registered and issued with the Ghana Card, which serves as the country’s primary form of identification.
A press statement signed and issued by Williams Darlas, acting Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NIA assured applicants who have been waiting since June 2023 that the card issuance process has officially resumed.
“All Ghanaians who applied for the first issuance, replacement, or update of personal records from June 2023 in Greater Accra and have not yet received their cards are assured that, effective Monday, 7th April 2025, the issuance of the Ghana Cards will begin at the respective District Offices where they registered,” the statement read.
He encouraged all unregistered Ghanaians aged 15 years and above to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting any NIA District Office within Greater Accra for first-time registration.
“The public is urged to report any NIA staff who demands a fee in exchange for these services,” the Authority warned.
However, he clarified that services such as card replacement and personal record updates are still subject to applicable administrative fees.
