The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the Passport Office will introduce day, night, and dawn shifts for its staff as part of the government's 24-hour economy initiative.
"This year, you must be ready and prepared. We are implementing a three-shift system to reduce passport waiting times," he stated.
Speaking at the Passport Office in Accra yesterday, he emphasised the need for faster processing, stating that applicants should receive their passports within a week of application, a key objective of the reform.
"We aim to make passport administration a 24-hour operation. So, this year, be prepared—we will be running three shifts to cut down waiting times," he added.

Mr Ablakwa also revealed plans to introduce chip-embedded passports and integrate passport data with the National Identification Authority (NIA) system to streamline applicant verification.
He further noted that measures were being taken to reduce passport fees for ordinary applicants while increasing fees for premium services.
