Pentecost Hospital honours Dr Nuertey
The Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Joseph Teye Nuertey, has been honoured by the Church of Pentecost Social Centre (PENSOS) for his outstanding dedication, hard work and commitment to duty.

Dr Nuertey supervised the inception of the Alpha Medical Centre and its eventual growth into a fully-fledged Pentecost Hospital.
Achievement
Dr Nuertey set about the Alpha Medical Centre in 1997. Soon after he had completed medical school, he was seconded to the Church of Pentecost upon request from the church to start the Alpha Medical Centre.
Within six years, he had succeeded in putting up basic infrastructure that served as the starting point for a health centre for the people of Oyarifa and its environs, who previously had to travel to the 37 Military Hospital to access health care.
Citation
Presenting a citation in honour of Dr Nuertey at an event at the premises of the hospital at the Madina Estates, the Director of PENSOS, Dr Yaw Yeboah, recounted circumstances that caused the church to consider an alternative health care service centre for the people of Oyarifa and its surrounding areas.
He said the church under the prevailing conditions had to take on the challenge of putting up the medical centre and was grateful to Dr Nuertey who had then completed medical school for coming on board in those difficult times.
Part of the citation presented to him read: “In spite of the daunting challenges that accompanied the task you had been given, you summoned the will power to accomplish it, bringing much relief to humanity”.
Only doctor
Dr Nuertey began as the only medical doctor at the health centre and through his hard work and sense of purpose he succeeded in turning around the fortunes of the facility such that it drew recognition from the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) which has since then incorporated the Pentecost Hospital into its membership.

The Pentecost Hospital now serves as a municipal hospital for the Madina Municipal Assembly as well as the entire Madina-La Nkwatanan area.
From an initial single doctor who manned the facility, the Pentecost Hospital now has 14 doctors, including a dermatologist, paediatrician, gynaecologist, a surgeon-in-training, optometrist and a visiting ophthalmologist.
Give back to society
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, a rather humbled Dr Nuertey gave thanks to the Almighty God for using him as a vessel to bring about change in peoples lives.
He also expressed gratitude to his wife, Mrs Georgina Nuertey, for her support.
Dr Nuertey praised the staff of the Alpha Medical Centre who helped him to achieve success and urged young doctors to strive to give back to society.
