Police arrest five suspected armed robbers in Sefwi Bekwai

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of attacks in Sefwi Bekwai and surrounding communities.

The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Abdalla (20), Abdul Rahaman Abubakar (21), Okasha Mohammed (19), Toffic Bawa (24), and Richard Gyapong (35), were apprehended following an intelligence-led surveillance operation.

The arrests came after weeks of investigations into multiple robbery incidents in the Bekwai area.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Sunday, officers intercepted three of the suspects riding an unregistered motorbike during a routine patrol.

The statement said, "Upon reaching the Mpesiem Police snap checkpoint, the suspects failed to stop and were pursued and arrested."

Police recovered items believed to have been used in the suspects’ criminal activities during searches of their homes. These included a backpack containing numerous talismans, a face mask, and finger rings.

The interrogation of the first three suspects led to the arrest of the remaining two gang members.

The police statement added, "Preliminary investigations have linked the five suspects to multiple robbery incidents in the Bekwai area."

All five suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
