The Police have arrested two persons at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region in connection with the physical abuse of an 11-year-old girl captured in a viral video circulating on social media.
The suspects are Grace Mensah, 75, the grandmother of the victim, and Godfred Osei Akoto, 25, who was seen in the footage assaulting the child.
The victim has since been rescued, while both suspects have been arrested and handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU) to assist with ongoing investigations.
A Police report said that during routine cyber patrols, the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team detected a viral video circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms, prompting calls for immediate intervention.
Preliminary investigations, it said, established that the video was first posted by a user identified as Tina Adjei, with the TikTok handle @tina.adjei7.
“The footage showed a young girl being physically assaulted by a young man in the presence of an elderly woman later identified as her grandmother.
“Acting swiftly, the team proceeded to Agona Jamasi, where a 75-year-old woman, Grace Mensah, was arrested. She identified herself as the grandmother of the victim, an 11-year-old girl, whose name has been withheld,” the report stated.
Further investigations, the report said, led to the arrest of Mr Osei Akoto, the individual seen in the video assaulting the child.
“In his statement to Police, Osei Akoto indicated that on December 6, 2025, the victim, who lives with her grandmother, left home and failed to return. He said he later found her at about 12:12 a.m. near the Presbyterian School in the area.
“According to Osei Akoto, the grandmother authorised him to punish the child, an act which resulted in the recording and subsequent circulation of the video on social media. This account was corroborated by Grace Mensah during Police interrogation,” it added.
