Police arrest suspected land guard, seize guns and ammunition at Abokobi
The Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Directorate of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 45-year-old man, Saviour Kojo Ekpe, suspected of being a land guard operating in Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a police situation report, a search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the retrieval of four pump-action guns, 101 AA/BB live ammunition, one jack knife, a Glock Austria pistol and 17 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The police report indicated that another suspect, Emmanuel Abbey, believed to be an accomplice of Ekpe, was also arrested for allegedly threatening the life of a complainant.
Police said the arrests followed intelligence gathered by the surveillance team regarding the activities of the suspect within the Abokobi area.
“On 05/03/26 the NOD SURVEILLANCE UNIT gathered intel that there is one man by name Ekpe who is a land guard within Abokobi and its environs who terrorizes residents and that the same man is alleged to have a number of weapons which he rents out to criminals for their criminal activities.
“Based on the intel, two teams were deployed to Abokobi to monitor, look for and arrest the suspect. The team eventually arrested suspects Saviour Kojo Ekpe aged 45 years. When a search was conducted on him 4 pump action guns, 101 AA/BB live ammunitions, 1 jack knife, 1 Glock AUSTRIA pistol and 17 9mm live ammunitions were retrieved from his room,” the police situational report said.
The police report said the suspect was taken to the office for further interrogation, during which he admitted ownership of the weapons.
It said he, however, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the firearms.
The report added that the suspect claimed he “uses one for hunting, another one for protection of his home, another one for his personal safety.
This goes to confirm the fact that suspect has been keeping the weapons and renting them out to people for their criminal activities.”
Police further indicated that Emmanuel Abbey, alleged to be an accomplice of Ekpe, was also arrested for threatening the life of a complainant.
Both suspects have since been detained while investigations continue, with the retrieved weapons and ammunition being kept as exhibits for evidential purposes.
