Police arrest two after raids on gold and cocoa firms as IGP deploys team to hunt remaining suspects

Two people have been arrested in connection with a robbery attack on a gold-buying firm and a cocoa-buying company at Nkasiem in the Ahafo Region, where gunmen also attempted to enter the vault of the Asutifi Rural Bank on December 2.

A statement from the Ahafo Regional Police Command on Wednesday said the suspects were picked up during an intelligence-led operation, while the rest of the gang is still being pursued.

The police said the robbers, who were armed with pump-action guns, attacked the two businesses at the same time before moving to the rural bank, where they tried to force their way into the vault but were unsuccessful.

One person who was shot in the thigh during the attack was treated at the St Elizabeth Hospital in Hwidiem and later discharged.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has deployed a special anti-robbery team from the National Police Headquarters in Accra to support the search for the remaining suspects.

The Public Relations Officer for the Goaso Area Headquarters, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Boakye, said the Command was working to identify and arrest all those involved in the incident.
