Police intercept bus transporting leaves suspected to be wee

The Kumasi Central Police Division has intercepted a Niger-bound bus, with registration number GM-1507-12, transporting compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

The bus was intercepted at Buoho in the Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region, during which the police retrieved 47 compressed parcels concealed in a safe under the left tyre.

The police also arrested the driver of the vehicle and his mate, Razak Yakubu, 37, and Adamu Zippo, 30, respectively, to assist in investigations.

Briefing the media, the Kumasi Central Police Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Jango Nuhu, said the police, acting on intelligence, arrested the suspects at Buoho and sent them to Kumasi. 

He said when the bus was intercepted; initial checks did not reveal anything. However, a second thorough check with the driver and his mate revealed the 47 parcels of compressed substance suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in a safe under the left tyre.

He said the driver and his mate were the only two occupants of the bus, which had set off from the Bawku Lorry Station at Alabar in Kumasi.

The two are now in police custody to help in investigations.
