“This year, we aspire to intensify the proactive measures adopted in the past and also embark on more public education to further bring down crime,” the Kpeshie Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Victor Gyan-Kyereko, stated.

He was speaking at a joint celebration of the 2014 end-of-year West African Security Services Association (WASSA) get-together for the Kpeshie, Sakumono and Cantonments Divisional Commands.

The Sakumono and Cantonments Commands were carved out of the Kpeshie Division at the beginning of this year, for effective and efficient crime management.

The commander mentioned measures embarked upon by his outfit in fighting crime in the division to includeday-and-night patrols, snap checks, swoops, intelligence gathering and the establishment of visibility points at strategic locations.

Cooperation

ACP  Gyan-Kyereko, however, observed that the successful operations of the police would depend largely on the co-operation of the public to always volunteer information on activities of criminals in their various communities.

He also indicated that with the springing up of new suburbs in the divisional area, it had become necessary for district assemblies, traditional authorities and corporate bodies to assist in constructing more police stations at such locations to ensure the maintenance of law and order.

Watch committees

Mr Gyan-Kyereko called for the formation of more neighbourhood watch committees,  which he said were gaining root, especially in the Teshie District.

According to him, such committees had aided in the arrest of some armed robbers.

Commendation

The commander commended police personnel in the three divisions for their hard work and dedication and advised them to continue to be disciplined and professional in the performance of their duties.

“We are always reminded to act and behave in a manner befitting the dignity of respected and trusted police officers by displaying a high level of integrity and impartiality,” he stated.
