LIVE: President Mahama in Nairobi as Guest of Honour for Kenya’s Jamhuri Day

President John Dramani Mahama is in Nairobi for an official visit as the Chief Guest for Kenya’s Jamhuri Day celebrations, following an invitation from President William Samoei Ruto.

The Ghanaian leader touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after midnight Kenya time, where he was received by the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, alongside other senior Kenyan officials.

His visit underscores deepening ties between the two countries and highlights Ghana’s growing visibility in continental diplomatic engagements.

Jamhuri Day, one of Kenya’s most important national holidays, commemorates the country’s attainment of independence and celebrates its cultural identity and progress. President Mahama’s role as Chief Guest positions him at the centre of the celebrations in Nairobi on Friday.

Following the ceremony, President Mahama will join President Ruto for a luncheon at the State House. The meeting is expected to create space for bilateral discussions on areas of mutual interest, including development cooperation, economic partnerships, and regional stability.

The President is accompanied by Dr Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, and Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations.

President Mahama is scheduled to depart Nairobi on Saturday after concluding the official engagements.
