Robbers attack man, snatch his vehicle

Three masked men have allegedly shot and injured a man at Sakumono in Accra in an attempt to snatch his vehicle from him.

The Accra Regional Police Command has since mounted a search for the three unidentified men who made away with the victim’s Toyota Landcruiser.

The victim, whose identity has been withheld by the police, is said to have been shot in the left rib during a struggle between him and the suspected robbers.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Afia Tenge, said the victim was responding to treatment at the Police Hospital where he was taken by the police after he had been shot.

She said the victim, who was returning home at about 1:45 a.m., was attacked by the three masked men who wielded pistols and ordered the victim to hand over the keys to the car.

Mrs Tenge said the suspected car snatchers also made away with four mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.

She said the police patrol team which arrived on the scene after the shooting retrieved three empty shells from the place.

The police, she said, had launched an investigation into the incident and assured the public that they “will pursue the criminals and get them arrested”.

She advised the public to avoid struggling with criminals who attacked them and asked for their valuables.

“Life is more precious. You must not struggle with criminals,” Mrs Tenge said.
