Robbers kill 3, injure another in Ashanti Region
A robbery gang of eight shot and killed three persons and left another critically injured as they escaped with a gold booty at Manso Dadease in the Mansie West District of the Ashanti Region last Monday night.
The nasty spectacle, akin to a movie scene, involved men on a shooting spree as the gang fled the scene of their robbery adventure.
The Regional Police Command has set out in search of the robbers who escaped with the four pounds of refined gold and GH¢17,000 cash they snatched from a gold dealer shop.
The deceased include Mr Emmanuel Osei, the personal driver of the Chief Executive of the Amansie West District, who was returning from an official programme.
The shooting spree also claimed the life of Kwadwo Danso, 60, and a 25-year-old man only identified as Osofo.
The bodies have been deposited at the mortuary of the St Martin Hospital at Agroyesum, the same hospital where the injured is receiving treatment.
Confirmation
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic and said at about 7:45 p.m., the police received information that some suspected armed robbers were shooting people at Manso Dadease and Manso Edubia in the Amansie West District.
By the time the police moved to the scene, they found the bodies of the three and the injured.
ASP Ahianyo said the police also retrieved two spent shells and six AK 47 cartridges on the scene.
Investigations
Preliminary investigations indicated that the robbers — supposedly armed with four AK 47 assault rifles and three pump action guns — attacked a gold dealer shop known as PK Adom at Manso Dadease and took four pounds of gold and cash of GH¢17,000.
ASP Ahianyo said the robbers started shooting at anyone in sight as they fled the scene with their booty, killing the three and injuring one more person.
On Tuesday, the Regional Crime Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Felix Cosmos, led a team of investigators to the crime scene to start investigations.
