Safe work environment requires holistic approach — TUC Scribe
The Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, has called for a holistic approach that combines strategies, compliance and innovation to create a safe work environment to boost production.
He explained that a commitment to create a work environment where every employee feels safe, valued and empowered could contribute to the collective success.

At the opening of the maiden Annual Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Conference in Accra last Wednesday, Mr Ansah said there was a need to integrate safety into organisational culture, and that meant regular training, clear safety protocols and the commitment from all institutional levels to prioritise the well-being of every employee.
The conference
The Annual Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Conference is an initiative of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA).
It marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the GEA to ensure sustainable enterprise development and safeguard the well-being of workers in Ghana.
The two-day conference, on the theme: “Building a Resilient and Safe Workplace: Strategies, Compliance, and Innovation”, seeks to leverage the power of strategies, compliance, and innovation to explore the critical importance of occupational safety and health for both employers and employees.
Compliance
The Secretary-General stated that compliance with safety regulations was the foundation, but the country must go beyond that and do more to support occupational safety and health.
“We need to integrate safety into our organisational culture, and this means regular training, clear safety protocols and the commitment from all levels of the organisation to prioritise the well-being of every employee.

“Innovation plays a pivotal role in both resilience and safety. By embracing new technologies and methodologies, we can create safer and more efficient work environments. For instance, leveraging data analytics can help predict and prevent workplace accidents,” he said.
Knowledge sharing
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GEA, Alex Frimpong, said the conference served as a platform for participants to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and learn from both local and international experiences.
“We are here to build partnerships, foster innovation, and ultimately create a resilient workplace culture that prioritises the safety of our work environment.
“I, therefore, encourage all participants to actively engage in the sessions and discussions over the next two days. Together, let us commit to making our workplaces safer, healthier, and more productive.
