SDA Women’s Ministries supports Kumasi Central Prisons

The Women’s Ministries Department of the Ashanti Central Ghana Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventists (SDA) has presented a number of items valued at GH¢2,000 to support the female section of the Kumasi Central Prisons.

The items included three boxes of detergents, three gallons of cooking oil, five bags of rice, 20 boxes of biscuit and 30 cartons of toilet roll.

The others were two boxes of sugar, five boxes of washing powder, two boxes of scrubbing brush and a box of bathroom slippers.

The Women’s Ministries Director of the conference, Mrs Lydia Forkuo, who was assisted by the Conference’s Youth and Chaplaincy Director, Pastor Kwaku Adu-Boahen, said the support was part of efforts to celebrate International Women’s Day with the female prisoners.

She said it was necessary for the Church to give back to society by supporting the needy, especially prisoners.

She advised the prisoners to not lose hope in life but reform even as they crammed in prison custody. She also asked the public to learn from acts that were likely to land them in prison so as to avoid or reduce public sin.

The Ministerial Secretary of the Conference, Pastor Gabriel Kofi Kwarteng, who preached a sermon at the presentation ceremony, said the inmates should not continue sinning.

He quoted Psalms 14:1 and 2, saying: “It is only a fool who believes there is no God”, adding that they must have faith and hope in God.

A Staff Officer in charge of the Female Ward of the Kumasi Central Prisons, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Esther Ako-Nunno, who received the items on behalf of the prisons, expressed gratitude to the Church for the support.
