The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in coordination with the Ghana Grid Company, has scheduled an extensive series of planned maintenance exercises across multiple regions for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with engineers set to undertake critical infrastructure upgrades that will temporarily disrupt power supply to scores of communities from the Volta Region to the Central enclave.

According to a comprehensive set of advisories issued by the power distributor over the past several days, the coordinated works are aimed at enhancing service reliability and strengthening the stability of the national grid. The outages will commence at varying times across affected areas, with most beginning at 9:00 am, though the duration of interruptions will differ significantly depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.

In the Volta Region, GRIDCO has scheduled three separate maintenance operations at different Bulk Supply Points. The most extensive of these will take place at the Kpando and Kadjeibi Bulk Supply Points, both running from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. These nine-hour outages will affect a wide sweep of communities including Kpando Township, Nkonya, Alavanyo, Agbenorxoe, Kwamekrom, Aziavi, Ve-Dome, Ve-Golokwati, Amedzofe, Vane, Fume, Torkor, Hohoe Township, Ayoma, Fodome, Kute, Sovie, Vakpo, and Anfoega, along with their surrounding areas.

A third operation in the Volta Region is scheduled at the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, a one-hour outage affecting Sogakope, Akatsi, Comboni, Anloga, the Naval Training Centre, Adutor, Dabala, Cescineros, Yorkutikpo, Adidome, the GWCL pumping station, Woe, Agorta, and surrounding communities.

In the Tema Region, a planned maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, impacting Lashibi, Community 19 Annex, Klagon, Old Ningo, and New Ningo, together with their surrounding areas.

The Central Region accounts for the most extensive geographical coverage, with multiple exercises scheduled throughout the day. A major operation from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm will affect parts of Winneba Junction, Onyadzi, Bewadzi, Gomoa Otiew, Mprumem, Simbrofo, Apam, Mumford, Gomoa Dago, Gomoa Assin, Ankamu Junction, and an extensive list of Gomoa communities including Ajumako, Akwakrom, Nkransh, Obokrom, Kumasi, Enyame, Dankyie, Koforidua, Dawurampong, Nduam, Wassa, Nkran, Esikuman, Debiso, Darman, Abonko, Lome, and Ogun, along with surrounding areas.

A second Central Region exercise during the same timeframe, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, will affect Afrangua Mpeseduadze, Obokor, Jedu, and surrounding areas. A third, shorter operation in the region is scheduled from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, impacting Ajumako township, Bisease, Kokoben, Eduyaw, Owane, Mando, Abaasa, Esarkyir, Gomoa Ayamaim, and surrounding localities.

In the Accra East Region, an eight-hour exercise from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm will affect Aseidu Nketia, parts of Oyarifa, Gravel Pit, parts of Burma Camp, and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, the Accra West Region will experience a similar eight-hour outage during the same timeframe, affecting Olebu, parts of Canada, new Bortianor, Adanseman, Cassava farm, Mr. Obeng block factory, Oshiyie, and surrounding communities.

In its public notices, the ECG and GRIDCO extended their apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience that such technical interventions inevitably cause to both domestic and commercial activities. The companies, however, reassured the public that the exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network and to ultimately deliver improved service to consumers across the regions.
