'Stop sexual affairs with school girls’

Mr Sampson Abbey-Armah, Awutu-Senya District Chief Executive, has said male teachers having sexual affairs with school girls should stop.

He said it was against the Ghana Education Service (GES) regulation for a male teacher to have a sexual affair with a school girl and that any teacher caught would be made to face the full rigorous of the law.

Mr Abbey-Armah said this when he addressed an award ceremony instituted by the Awutu-Obrachire Area Council at Obrachire during which some teachers and school children were honored for their hard work.

He said reports reaching his office indicated that some male teachers in the district were having illegal sexual relationship with some of the school girls.

Mr Abbey-Armah said the Assembly was collaborating with the GES to enact bye-laws to arrest parents who refused to send their children to school.

He said the law would take effect from 2014 and urged parents to send their children to school to avoid prosecution.

Mr Abbey-Armah said the government was investing heavily in education infrastructure and appealed to parents to reciprocate the gesture by send their children to school.

He raised concern about the poor performance of the public schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and said efforts had to be made by stakeholders to improve performance.
