Treat ‘doom prophecies’ with circumspection’
The Head Pastor of the Legon Baptist Church (LBC), Reverend Samuel Otu- Pimpong, has advised prophets to properly manage how they convey ‘doom’ prophesies to the public.
Speaking to the media at the launch of LBC’s 35th anniversary in Accra last Saturday, he said it was not the best for prophecies about
death to be made public.
“I will expect that they treat such prophecies with circumspection and some kind of management. But it depends on the emotional state and maturity of whoever
is giving the prophecy.
“As for the prophecy, you cannot say it is a lie, but it is management of the prophecy that is critical,’’ he said.
“Doom prophecies’’
Rev. Otu-Pimpong’s comments come on the heels of a plethora of prophecies that had surfaced after the death of dancehall star,Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, aka Ebony Reigns.
Some of the prophets claimed they predicted the death of the star while others said they knew those responsible for the 20-year –
old star’s death.
Other celebrities
The doom “prophecies” have spread to other celebrities, with another prophet predicting that selfacclaimed king of dancehall, Shatta Wale, will also die by December, 2018.
Shata Wale has not taken the prophecy kindly and vowed to burn the church of the prophet, if he remained alive by December, 2018.
The controversy has generated lots of debates, leading to some people describing the prophets as fake who are only interested in fame.
Others have jumped to the defence of the prophets and called on the celebrities to take such prophecies seriously.
35th anniversary
The 35th anniversary of the LBC is on the theme “Arise and Walk in the power and strength of our Lord Jesus Christ,’’
Some of the activities to mark the occasion include a medical outreach, candle light procession, drama, hymns night and a thanksgiving service.
Rev. Otu-Pimpong said the LBC wanted to use the anniversary to celebrate God’s goodness and mercy throughout the church’s existence.
He advised Christians to trust and rely on God as he is the only one with the power to change an impossible situation.
“We should not circumvent God. We should allow God to be God for Him to fulfil all the plans He has in stock for us,’’ he said.
