The award recipients included Dr Rashid Pelpuo, a Minister of State at the Presidency, and the Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, the Chairman of the National Peace Council.

Others are the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, and Bishop Daniel Torto, the Anglican Bishop of Accra.

Appreciation

Dr Pelpuo expressed happiness for the award and encouraged TUDEC to continue its good works, adding that he had never regretted associating with TUDEC.

He indicated that the Flagstaff House was also proudly associated with TUDEC in its peace-building initiatives.

He recalled his encounter with all the dignitaries at the 2015 conference and the heartwarming discourse that took place and concluded that all organisations, both foreign and local, religious or secular, must emulate the concern and love that TUDEC was showing to mankind.

In a message read on his behalf, Most Rev. Prof. Asante thanked TUDEC for the honour done him.

“Peace is central to the development of every nation and every individual or group that is committed to the promotion of peace, stability and co-existence is worth supporting,” he said, adding that the commitment of TUDEC in that regard was worth supporting by all the people of Ghana.

He reiterated his unending desire to associate with TUDEC in its continued effort at encouraging dialogue and promoting peace and wished TUDEC well in all its endeavours.

Champion of peace

For his part, Bishop Torto praised TUDEC for its continued effort at encouraging dialogue as a means of settling differences.

He added that TUDEC had become the champion of peace and dialogue and encouraged them to extend the   gesture to eternity.

He noted that the world had become a global village with the aid of advanced technology, hence it was impossible for people of different nationalities, races and religions to escape living and working together. “Therefore, in our diversity, dialogue, love and tolerance must be the thermometer,” he stated.

The Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam,  Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, enumerated reasons for which there was no option for anyone but to dialogue.

“Differences in humans is inevitable because that is the unquestionable natural phenomenon created by our maker. We cannot change the differences, so we must live with it. Therefore, the only stabilising factor is dialogue,” he said.

To him TUDEC  had become the beacon of hope for all Ghanaians and for all the people of the world.

“TUDEC has become the leader in peace, unity, love and tolerance and, therefore, everybody must support TUDEC in this regard,” he urged.

He thanked TUDEC for the award and reiterated the Chief Imam’s commitment to make peace reign in Ghana.

A former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheikh I. C. Quaye, indicated that both Muslims and Christians were one.

“They worship one God and have the same prophets and must, therefore, tolerate each other,” he said.

Peace and dialogue

The dinner, dubbed, Peace and Dialogue Iftar, is organised annually during the month of Ramadan to bring members of all religious groups to a round table to discuss matters of peace in the world, while observing the Muslim fast breaking.

The Managing Director of TUDEC, Mr Yussuf  Temizkhan, in his welcome address, indicated that this year’s event was special because of the inclusion of the Peace Awards.

He added that the awards were meant to encourage Ghanaians to spearhead dialogue as a means of achieving peace because it was through peace that the real human potential could be realised.

Mr Temizkhan emphasised the need for love and tolerance among all peoples of the world, saying that TUDEC and the Galaxy International School were committed to creating platforms for dialogue on peace, love and tolerance.

He congratulated all the awardees  and expressed the hope that they would continue to commit themselves to the peace of the country and the world in general.
