Two dead, 19 injured in multi-vehicle crash on N1 in Accra
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to a fatal multi-vehicle collision on the N1 Highway near the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra on Monday, February 23.
The Service in a Facebook post said it received a distress call at 7:58 pm, with firefighters arriving at the scene at approximately 8:14 pm. The crash involved a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20).
Fire crews extricated trapped victims from the wreckage and administered immediate emergency care. Of the 21 casualties recorded, two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while 19 others were transported to Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.
Working alongside other emergency responders, the GNFS secured the area, managed traffic, and cleared the wreckage to prevent further incidents and restore the flow of vehicles on the busy highway.
Authorities say the cause of the crash is under investigation. The Service expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery, while urging motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
