The Upper West Regional office of Zoomlion Ghana Limited has undertaken a spraying exercise in communities in the Jirapa District to prevent a possible outbreak of a communicable disease in the area.

The exercise, which was carried out with support from the environmental health unit of the district, was in line with sustaining the campaign on cleanliness and proper disposal of liquid and material waste by the people.

In the advent of rains, it is hoped to prevent the possible outbreak of cholera and other communicable diseases across the district.

The facilities sprayed included public toilets and institutional places of convenience in schools, health centres, clinics, chips compounds, dumping sites and market centres.

The Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion, Mr Ezekiel Ayamga,  told the Daily Graphic that his outfit, apart from the spraying, also sensitised the people of the area to not defaecate or dump waste indiscriminately.

“With the onset of rains, the possibility of an outbreak of diseases in the district, and for that matter the region, is very high and so it is important that we avoid any form of complacency,” he noted, and  advised residents to be conscious of sanitation-related issues and hygiene in general.

The Jirapa District Environmental Health Officer, Mr Paul Baba Mornah, lauded the company for the proactive measure it had taken to prevent the possible outbreak of diseases in the area and said it was a huge relief to the people.

He further attributed the absence of cholera cases in the district last year to the regular disinfection carried out last year by Zoomlion and expressed the hope that they would yield the same impact this year.
