The suspect, identified only as Mariam, is alleged to have committed the act about 7.40 p.m. last Saturday.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Bole District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Eric Awiadem, said Mariam is a former girlfriend of the deceased’s father, Iddrisu Dramani, 28.

He said Mariam had a three-year-old baby boy with Dramani but she was jilted along the line when Dramani found out that she (Mariam) was suffering from epilepsy.

Dramani’s decision led to constant quarrels between the two former lovebirds.

Dramani is said to have gone for another woman, identified only as Mma Ajato, with whom he had the baby.

Incident

Mr Awiadem explained that about 7:30 p.m. last Saturday, Mma Ajato left her baby in her room in the care of some children to watch a telenovela in a neighbour’s room.

Mariam is alleged to have sneaked into the house and, without anybody’s knowledge, picked the sleeping baby and dumped her in a public toilet near the Bole Market.

When Mma Ajato returned home and could not find her baby, some residents of the neighbourhood suspected Mariam of having knowledge of the disappearance of the child.
