According to the Executive Director of Environment360 Ms Cordie Aziz, the campaign dubbed “Akpa Shaa” is in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency of US and the Environmental Protection Agency of Ghana.

"In March this year, an open burning mapping was conducted in the area by Environment360 and it exposed over 236 open burning hotspots in the area within a period of 10 days," a statement issued by Environment 360 said.

"Though the campaign is targeted at residents in Ga Mashie, it is extended to all Ghanaians through other forms of communication including social media. As part of the education, a video was launched at the World Environment Day to emphasize on how various groups of the community (fish processors, scrap dealers, etc) are involved in open burning activities and the effects that come along with it.

"The video would be broadcasted at the Jamestown Community Centre, Mants3 Agbonaa, churches and mosques in the area. It will also be broadcasted across all social media platforms to educate Ghanaians across the country".

Also present at the launch was the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Samira Bawumia and the Deputy Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honorable Patricia Appiagyei.
