Eastern Region: Minister cuts sod for Abrodua CHPS compound

A sod-cutting ceremony has been held for the construction of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, with a residential facility for medical staff, at Abrodua, a suburb of Asokore in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The new edifice, which will be equipped with the necessary facilities such as an out-patient department and male and female wards, is expected to be completed within six months.

DACF project

The project, funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), will address the healthcare needs of residents within the municipality and surrounding communities.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, with the assistance of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben North, Samuel Adongo, cut the sod for the project to begin last Tuesday.

Mrs Awatey said the new facility, when completed, would bring healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of the people and at the same time reduce the influx of patients to other major healthcare facilities such as the Eastern Regional Hospital and the St Joseph Orthopaedic Hospital, all within the New Juaben North and New Juaben South municipalities.

She expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, traditional rulers, and the Catholic Church in the municipality for their support for the project.

Mrs Awatey, therefore, urged the contractor, as well as those who would be monitoring the project, to speed it up to ensure the facility was completed on the scheduled date.

Bridge gap

The MCE said the project formed part of the assembly's broader commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery to bridge the gap between urban and peri-urban communities.

He urged the contractor to engage unskilled labour within the community to enable them to earn income for their upkeep and that of their dependants.

Mr Adongo also thanked the Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, for his generosity in releasing a land for the facility, describing it as critical to the development of the community.

For his part, the Director of the Millennial Assets and Properties Limited, Stiphania Koutanyi, assured the chiefs and people of the area that the project would be completed as soon as possible.

The Queenmother of the Asokore Community, Nana Amah Awi II, said the facility would help address access to healthcare services in the area.
