GH¢70,000 weighing facility for Kyekyewere-Dadwen

A group of miners, mainly from AngloGold Ashanti and its subsidiaries, whose non-governmental organisations (NGO) have become the main catalyst for providing health deliverables in the Adanse traditional area, has given another lifeline to the people of Kyekyewere-Dadwen Community in the Adanse North District in the Ashanti Region.

Formed about five years ago, the NGO ‘Fifty 50 Club’ now has 265 members and relies on monthly contributions from them to fund interventions in health care, education and community development

After providing Saint Louis Catholic Health Centre in Bodwesango, in the Adansi Asokwa District in the Ashanti Region, with a fully equipped emergency unit, ‘Fifty 50’ has again broken ground for the construction of a Children’s weighing centre for the Kyekyewere-Dadwen community and beyond.

The GH¢70,000 project would strengthen child healthcare delivery in the area and forms part of a series of interventions lined up to commemorate the club’s fifth anniversary.

In an interview with the President of the ‘Fifty 50 Club’, Jacob Edmund Acquah, he said the project was in direct response to a request from the health facility during an earlier donation of medical equipment by the club.

“Supporting children’s welfare is fundamental to their growth and development, and this is what we stand for as a club. We believe the weighing centre will improve the quality of life of children,” he said.

When completed, the weighing centre would offer growth monitoring, immunisations, nutritional support including vitamin A supplementation, and health education for caregivers on hygiene, parenting and child development.

Mr Acquah also expressed appreciation to members of the club for their generosity, which has enabled them to impact lives consistently over the past five years.

Endorsements

The Adansi North District Health Director, Eric Attuahene, lauded the initiative, describing it as crucial to enhancing child welfare and maternal health services at the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.

Additional support

In a related development, the club donated GH¢10,000 to the T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (Fomena AMASS) to help procure metal bunk beds for its female students.

This follows an earlier donation of 30 metal bunk beds, valued at GH¢24,000, after a fire outbreak destroyed the Ward's existing beds.

With this, the club has spent a total of GH¢160,000 on donations and projects as part of its 5th anniversary celebrations.
