SMOGA donates to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Children’s Department

The St. Mary’s Old Girls’ Association (SMOGA) has donated medical and hygiene supplies valued at GH¢500,000 to the children’s departments of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) as part of its 2025 Feast Day celebration.

Items donated included disinfectants, hospital supplies, detergents, diapers, sanitisers, liquid soaps, brooms, brushes, toilet rolls, hand tissues and assorted children’s food items such as Milo, milk and others.

The gesture, which formed part of the association’s annual humanitarian outreach undertaken during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, took place on December 8, on the theme: “Honouring our founders: living the faith, serving with truth and virtue.”

Donation

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the National President of SMOGA, Lynda Dede Graham, said the contribution was mobilised from 48-year-groups of old students who responded generously to the needs of the hospital’s children’s wards.

She explained that the donation followed a needs assessment conducted by the association to determine priority items required by the various children’s units, as some families also struggled to afford basic items for their children.

She added that sanitation was a major concern in children’s wards, hence the focus on hygiene products.

“Hospital spaces for children must be cleaned constantly, and these supplies will help the staff maintain a healthy environment for them,” she said.

To guarantee that the supplies reach the intended beneficiaries, Mrs Graham said some items were distributed by the association during the visit.

Feast day activities

Before the donation, Mrs Graham said the SMOGA alumni joined students for the Feast Day Mass held at the Rev. Mother Bernadette Assembly Hall.

She said the celebration marked one of the most significant on the association’s calendar.
