Korle-Bu gets quick response

Television is said to soothe the pain of illness in patients, especially children, and make them recover quickly, while in hospital.

In line with this, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital made an appeal to public-spirited entities to provide it with television sets.

The management and staff of Unique Life Assurance Company Limited promptly responded to the appeal and donated television sets, educational materials and decoders to the Accident Centre and Children's Ward of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The company’s budget allocation for support programmes this year totals GH¢60,000 and is targeted at assisting educational, health, industrial, agricultural and corporate entities.

While presenting the items to the hospital, the acting Chief Executive Officer of Unique Life Assurance Company Limited, Mr Kingsley Agyemang, commended the management and staff of the hospital for the good work they were doing for  patients in their care, especially children, in spite of the constraints they faced.

He noted that as part of the company's corporate social responsibility and desire to see the living conditions of others improve, it decided to support the Accident Centre and Children's Ward with the items to facilitate the speedy recovery of patients there.  Mr Agyemang expressed the hope that the children would enjoy the educational programmes on television as they recuperated.

He said the insurance company had the responsibility to give back to society and as such was ready to support noble causes that helped to improve the living conditions of people.

He added that the company would continue to support needy institutions that would come to them for assistance.

Mr Agyemang urged institutions to lend their support to make life better for those in need.

"Engaging in business and creating wealth is not the ultimate in life; touching lives and creating opportunities for others also to make it in life is more important,” he said.

Ms Georgina Omari, Principal Nursing Officer in charge of the Korle Bu Accident Centre Ward, expressed gratitude to the management and staff of Unique Life Assurance Company Limited and gave an assurance that the items  would be put to good use. She further appealed for additional assistance from other organisations and individuals either in cash or in kind to help save lives.
