An Accra based tabloid, The Al-Hajj newspaper, reported yesterday that Nana Akufo-Addo had finally thrown in the towel due to his age and poor health.

However, in a swift reaction, his office, described the report as “blatant falsehood”, adding that “this alleged news item only exemplifies the unacceptable face of creative journalism which seems to be the speciality of the Al Hajj newspaper”.

According to his office, their attention has been drawn to a publication alleging that Nana Akufo Addo has bowed out of the race to become the flagbearer of the party.

The statement,  signed by  Mr Kow Essuman, aide to Nana Akufo-Addo stated that ‘’ the attention of the Office of Nana Akufo-Addo has been drawn to a story published on Ghanaweb today, Friday, 21 February, 2014, and sourced to the Al-Hajj newspaper with the headline: ‘Akufo-Addo bows out, Kufuor Agrees’.

The said report reads: “Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is cooling off in his ‘hideout’ in far-away UK, has finally thrown in the towel on his wildly rumoured third term bid for the presidency due to old age and health concerns.”

‘’We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the story is entirely false. This alleged news item only exemplifies the unacceptable face of creative journalism which seems to be the speciality of the Al Hajj newspaper.,’’ the statement pointed out.

It concluded that Nana Akufo-Addo had made no such decision.

As indicated, the statement said,  before his departure to London last September, he would make known his future in Ghanaian politics on his return to Ghana, which would be very shortly.
