He has consequently appealed to the electorate to have faith in him and vote for him come the elections.

Addressing party faithful and sympathisers at a fundraising ceremony organised at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Nana Akufo-Addo pleaded with the people to give him the mandate to bring back hope.

He said the current sense of despondency among Ghanaians, particularly the youth, would be a thing of the past under the NPP administration.

According to him, he was not into politics to seek his own welfare or that of his family but that of Ghanaians at large.

“My government will not condone nepotism and corruption,” he said, adding that he was not into politics to seek his own welfare but that of the people.

He was accompanied by his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the acting party national chairman, Mr Freddy Blay, the Acting General Secretary and National Organiser, Mr John Boadu.

Experience
According to the flag bearer of the NPP, the party has done it before and has the men to do the job and as such was not promising anything that the party would not be able to deliver.

He commended the Ashanti regional branch of the party for organising the first-ever public fundraising programme.

Earlier, his running mate, Dr Bawumia assured the nation that with the NPP in power, “we will restore the teacher trainee and nursing training allowances and will ensure that statutory payment due the National Health Insurance Scheme and the District Assembly Common Fund are released on time.”

He said he was confident that the NPP would ascend the throne of governance in this country, adding, “In 295 days, we will have a new government in this country” and called on the people to come out in their numbers on the voting day to cast their ballots to change the Mahama-led administration.

Youth Organiser
The National Youth Organiser of the party, Mr Sammy Awuku, called on the party members, particularly the youth, to be vigilant at the polls and ensure that what happened in the last election did not recur.

He said the current untold hardship facing Ghanaians should not be allowed to continue.

He blamed the rise in armed robberies and other crimes in general on the high rate of unemployment, which he said was forcing people to resort to crime in order to survive.

Mr Awuku thus called on the party faithful to own the campaign and ensure that its candidates were elected in the 2016 polls and with Nana Akuffo Addo as the President.

Delay
The programme, which was initially scheduled to start at 8a.m., finally took off after 2p.m. Though lot of party members turned out for it, most of them would not were initially unable to enter the stadium as they would not pay the GH¢20 and GH¢50 charged by the fundraising committee for the popular and VIP stands respectively.

The decision was later reversed, making the entry free for all.
