Bawumia taunts Mahama for "running away" from Presidential Debate

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taunted former President John Mahama, accusing him of avoiding a debate because he is "afraid of his own record."

Dr. Bawumia has called for a one-on-one debate between the two leading presidential candidates ahead of the December election. However, the former President has consistently expressed a lack of interest in participating.

At a campaign rally in Accra on Thursday, Mr. Mahama stated that he would not debate the Vice President, saying that Bawumia is not at his level.

In response, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his challenge during a rally in Nkawkaw on Saturday, accusing Mahama of being afraid to face him in a debate, likening his retreat to the behaviour of "nkoko nketenketen" (small chickens).

"Mahama claims that during his tenure, he performed better than we have. I told him that if he truly believes in his superior record, he should join me for a debate—mano a mano, man to man. He should come for the debate and not be afraid," Dr. Bawumia said.

"But he is indeed afraid. He’s running away like 'nkoko nketenketen.'"
