'Begin construction of district hospital in Twifo Praso'

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Twifo Atti Mokwa, Mr Samuel Ato Amoah, has appealed to the government to begin the construction of the 60-bed district hospital to enable the people in the area to access quality healthcare.

The proposed 60-bed district hospital,  to be located at Twifo Praso, is  being executed by Euroget De-Invest Sa of Egypt.

Preparatory work is almost complete in terms of architectural drawings, documentation for sub-contracting and eventual mobilisation to site for the commencement of the hospital.

In an answer to a question posed by the MP, the Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey, told Parliament that Twifo Praso was part of the phase one of the project, alongside Wa, Salaga and Nkawkaw.

“Unfortunately, the proposed site for the hospital is not conducive,  and it is  taking a long time for the assembly to arrive at a decision on a new site.”

That, according to Ms Ayittey, had accounted for the delay in starting the construction of the hospital at Twifo Praso.

But Mr Amoah told newsmen that the community was yearning for  a better health facility, explaining that “in case of any emergency, we have to rush the patients to Cape Coast, the regional capital.”

‘‘I want to plead with the government to commence the project since my people are suffering,” he said.

He emphasised that he was surprised the minister told the House that owners of the land for the project and the district assembly were litigating over it.

Mr Amoah explained that compensation for crops on the land had already being paid to their respective owners, adding that “I will investigate the minister’s assertion, notwithstanding.”

“Be as it may, everything should be done for the commencement of the project because as a district, we deserve a better health facility,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says it has finished a proposal for the funding and development of a teaching hospital to be sited in Ho.

Ms Ayittey told Parliament  that the proposal had been submitted to the Ministry of Finance for further action.
