“Continue to be who you are and victory will be yours” – Western North NPP Execs tell Bawumia

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has received support from delegates and constituency executives in the Western North Region as he continues his nationwide campaign tour ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries in January 2026.

The former Vice President, who is seeking to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, began the fourth leg of his campaign tour in the Western North Region on Tuesday, after visiting the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions. His visit to constituencies such as Sefwi Akontombra, Aowin, and Suaman was met with enthusiastic crowds, chants of endorsement, and open declarations of support.

In Bia East, Bia West, Suaman, and Bodi, the momentum grew stronger on the second day of the tour, with delegates describing Dr Bawumia as the natural choice to lead the NPP, citing his humility, experience, and long-standing relationship with the grassroots.

“Here in Bia East, you are adored because of your humility. In spite of all the attacks against you, you don’t even respond, and this is part of the reason why here in Bia, we are resolved to vote for you again,” said the NPP Constituency Chairman for Bia East, John Ameyaw, in his welcome address.

He added, “We commend you for your decency and humility. Let them say whatever they want to say about you. It will never be the case. Continue to be who you are and victory will be yours.”

Similar sentiments were expressed in Bia West, where the Constituency Chairman declared, “As for us, the only person we know is Dr Bawumia. We’ve known you for so many years. You have been with us all these years here and in the region, so we will continue to be behind you until you lead us to victory.”

Delegates in the region also cited development projects initiated during Dr Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President as evidence of his commitment to improving lives in one of Ghana’s most deprived regions. Among these were the construction of the main road linking the region to Kumasi, which has significantly eased travel, and the introduction of the Zipline medical drone service, which delivers essential health supplies to remote communities.

“Thanks to your vision, farmers in this region are no longer afraid of emergencies because the drone you helped to establish has been delivering essential medical supplies to us,” one delegate remarked.

Dr Bawumia’s close association with the people of the Western North Region, through repeated visits and engagement over the years, has further deepened his connection with delegates. His accessibility and rapport with local party structures were repeatedly acknowledged throughout the tour.

In the 2023 NPP primaries, Dr Bawumia won seven out of the eight constituencies in the Western North Region, and early signs suggest his support base remains firm. Many party faithful have expressed confidence that he could achieve a clean sweep this time around.

The Vice President’s personality and leadership style have also become key talking points throughout the campaign. Several speakers urged him to maintain his calm demeanour and focus on his message of unity and progress.

“You are adored and loved because of your humility and good character,” another Bia East delegate said. “In spite of all the attacks against you, you don’t even respond, and that is why we will continue to stand with you. Continue to be who you are, and victory will be yours.”
