Don’t sidestep your Christian principles - Presiding Bishop of Methodist Church urges Prof. Opoku-Agyemang
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo has advised the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2020 elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang not to depart from her Christian principles as she enters another phase of her political life.
“You are coming in at a time when our politics is bedeviled with all sorts of negative things but as a Christian, don’t go that way”, he cautioned her.
Most. Rev. Boafo gave the advice during a sermon at a thanksgiving service for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang at the Asbury Dunwell Chapel at the Methodist Church Headquarters to give thanks to God after her unveiling.

A statement signed by the Spokesperson and Head of Communications of the office of the running mate, Mrs Mawuena Trebarh, said the running mate was joined in the service by some family and party members.
Servant
Most Rev. Dr Boafo told the NDC running mate that the mandate she was seeking from Ghanaians should be one to lead and be a servant who will care for the poor, the helpless and the marginalised and even those who did not count in society.
The Presiding Bishop advised her to constantly carry the value of peace along in her political journey.
“Carry peace, walk with peace, talk about the need for peace and let people know you stand with the God of peace, ” he said.
Truth
Most Rev. Boafo acknowledged that Christians must get into politics to operate with truth and integrity as against the politics of insults and violence.
He spoke against the lynching of an old helpless woman to death after being branded as a witch.

Gratitude
In her remarks, Prof. Opoku- Agyemang expressed gratitude to God for how far he had brought her and said she viewed her new position as an important step God had placed in her path.
“I do not intend to take this step all by myself; I am trusting God as I take this step and asking everyone to come on this journey with me”, she said
