Doreen Manieson resigns from PPP
Mrs Doreen Manieson, a 2012 parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, has resigned from the party.
Mrs Manieson said it had become important for her to come out openly about her resignation, considering the embarrassment and intimidation she and her supporters and family had suffered from some quarters of the party.
Mrs Manieson explained that she resigned three days to the parliamentary primaries due to reasons best known to her.
She said though her name was printed on the ballot paper, the decision to print her name on the ballot paper was without her consent.
At a brief press conference at Elmina yesterday, which she themed “Just to clear the air”, Mrs Manieson said she resigned on March 24, 2015 while the election of the parliamentary candidate was held on March 28, 2015.
“I withdrew from the contest three days before the primaries.
“I want to emphasise that I did not contest the PPP primaries and, therefore, was not a candidate. The rumours that I resigned because I lost the contest is not true.” she said.
She said there was a mix-up between the party and her, and she was hoping that it would be resolved. However, she noted that such expected dialogue never came, and that necessitated her resignation and subsequent press conference to clear issues.
Mrs Manieson said at the right time she would announce her political plans for the way forward and urged her supporters to stand firm with her.
She also thanked the Omanhen of the area, Nana Kwadwo Conduah, the women and every body for the support.
Mr John Sterlin, the brother-in-law of Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the Founder and Flag bearer of the 2012 Progressive People’s Party (PPP), was declared the winner at the primaries.
Mr Sterlin has in press reports rejected allegations that he was using his relationship with Dr Nduom to win votes.
