The Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government has directed Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to concentrate on completing abandoned projects before starting new ones.
The directive was issued by the Chairperson of the Committee, Maame Pokuah Sawyer on Friday, October 10, 2025, during the closing session of the Committee’s public sittings on the 2024 audit reports of MMDAs from all 16 regions.
Maame Pokuah Sawyer said the directive is in line with the President’s vision to promote efficient use of public resources.
She noted that more than 80 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) has been released to the Assemblies to support local development, yet many projects remain uncompleted.
“The exercise serves as a warning to all of you, including the technocrats,” she said.
“Some of you continue to present fake or outdated documents. This will not be tolerated next year.”
Maame Pokuah Sawyer also urged Assemblies to strictly comply with Article 92(1) of the Public Financial Management Act and the approved formula for disbursing the DACF.
She disclosed that the Committee would undertake field visits to selected districts to obtain firsthand information on the state of ongoing and abandoned projects.
The Committee acknowledged the cooperation of all Assemblies that appeared before it during the sittings.
It reaffirmed its mandate to examine issues relating to decentralisation, local governance, and rural development, and to oversee the performance of ministries, departments, and agencies operating under its jurisdiction.
