“The Assembly has been allocated GH¢ 4.1 million as its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the year 2017,” she stated.

“I have prioritised revenue mobilisation because it is the heart of development. To this effect, I have set out a mechanism to ensure that the assembly gets what is due it to propel the development of the municipality and also address the welfare challenges of the members and staff of the assembly,” she added.

She further reiterated the comprehensive determination of the revenue base of the assembly, saying the Land Valuation Division of the Lands Commission had been contracted to revalue all the properties within the municipality.

“Under the Modernising Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) programme, the Government of Ghana, with support from the Canadian Government (Global Alliance) is exclusively targeting and strengthening Agricultural Extension Delivery at all levels in order to improve yields and ensure national food security,” she added.

Commenting on the amount coming to the assembly she said out of a total annual budget of GH¢75,000.00, GH¢ 37,500.00 had been released to cover the first and second quarters of 2017 for the implementation of the programme.

Presiding member

For his part, the Presiding Member for the Ga East Municipal Assembly, Mr Jesse Nii Noi, charged members of the assembly to be committed to their duties to aid the welfare of the people.

“We need to work hand-in-hand with the Assembly staff and all stakeholders to ensure that we achieve a common goal of developing the municipality to a desired level,” he said.

He appealed to other members of the assembly to support the newly elected MCE at all times, saying “she cannot do the work all by herself. She needs us in the morning, day and night, and we must not in any way turn our back on her.”

Motivation

In his advice to the MCE, Nii Noi pleaded with her to treat, as a matter of urgency, concerns that would come from the assembly members, and added that better packages should be put in place to motivate them to work harder.

He recommended the the assembly took a critical look at developing tourism in the area, especially in Sesemi and Abokobi which, he said, were the hub of tourism in the municipality.
