77 PWDs benefit from assembly support
Seventy-seven farmers, who are Persons with Disability (PWDs) from three communities in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region, have benefited from farm inputs including weedicides, spraying machines, fertilisers, machetes and maize among other items as the assembly’s support for them.
The three communities are Dawa Korliwa, Dawa Kpersebi and Nsutapong.
In addition to the farming inputs, three of them were given wheel chairs, five others benefited from medical assistance, nine received educational support while 11 had sheep and goats under the Rearing for Food and Jobs (RFJ) all valued at GH¢119,000.
No deviation from govt promise
Presenting the items to the PWDs at separate ceremonies in the various communities, the Upper Manya Krobo District Chief Executive (DCE), Felix Nartey Odjao, said the assembly would always ensure that it never deviated from the government’s policies and programmes.
He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government pledged to enhance the livelihood of the people irrespective of status and added that “we as an assembly will always do what is right.”
He said the items should be managed in every way possible to put food on their tables as that was the aim of the President.
He explained that unlike the previous regimes that gave cash to the PWDs which was short termed, the present government’s arrangement was the best that would enable them to manage their own lives well.
Mr Odjao advised the beneficiaries to ensure that they did not misuse what they had received but rather work well with them so as to reap what would give them their daily bread.
He assured those who had not yet received their share to remain calm as they would be sorted out soon.
He added, “once you are a PWD and you have registered with your leadership, you will by all means be sorted out and there is no need to worry.”
Assembly concerned about PWDs
He said the assembly was very concerned about the plight of PWDs that was why the presentation was done at their doorsteps in the various communities, so that they would not have to spend money in transporting the items from one point to the other, and urged the PWDs to appreciate the government for that.
The leader of the PWDs at Dawa Kpersebi, Mr David Nater Dzademo, on behalf of his colleagues, thanked the assembly and the government for honouring its promise which would go a long way to improve the standard of living among the PWDs.
He said from the experience they had had in the past, they were not sure of any promise from politicians, but what they had witnessed was a confirmation of the promise by the present government to change their lifestyles for the better.
