Use pulpits to preach peace - Bawumia urges faith-based organisations
The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged religious and faith-based organisations to use their pulpits to preach peace to their members and the entire public in the lead-up to the December general election.

He underscored the crucial role they played in fostering stability in society and asked them to step up efforts to help ensure an incident-free election.
"As we go to this crucial polls in December, much is expected from churches and other religious groups to offer prayers, deliver sermons and engage in peaceful mediation to promote stability in Ghana," he stated.

Dr Bawumia made the call in a speech read on his behalf by the former Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, at the opening of the 11th General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) in Tamale last Thursday.
The event brought together leadership and delegates of the assembly to discuss key issues, make decisions, formulate policies and ensure adherence to rules and regulations guiding the church's future.
The five-day meeting is on the theme: "Care for God's Creation: The Mission of the Church".
In his remarks, Dr Bawumia called for religious tolerance and harmony among the citizenry, saying that with peace and stability, development would be able to thrive in the nation.
He re-echoed the President's commitment to ensuring a peaceful, free and fair election in December 2024.

"I am equally committed to a free and fair election. We must avoid any actions that could disrupt peace and cause violence in the country," he added.

For his part, the Moderator of the EP Church, Reverend Dr Lieutenant Colonel Bliss Divine K. Agbeko, reiterated the church's commitment to promote peace and climate justice through awareness campaigns, education, and tree planting to address climate change, deforestation and environmental degradation.
Dr Agbeko also outlined plans to revamp the fisheries project at Todome-Kpalime and expand commercial agriculture in Ve-Koloenu, Yendi, Dambai and Kundzi.
