Asokwa Municipal Assembly supports 39 PWDs

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly has disbursed cheques and start-up items valued at GH¢130, 000 to support persons with disabilities (PWDs) from its share of the District Assemblies Disabilities Common Fund.

The beneficiaries received sewing machines, hairdressing, welding, carpentry, shoemaking, plantain chips making equipment and cold store freezers.

Others also received cash amounts to support the payment of their medical as well as educational bills.

This is the 13th time the Asokwa Assembly, together with the Member of Parliament for the area, Patricia Appeagyei, has engaged in this statutory disbursement exercise.

MCE

Speaking at the ceremony to present the items to the beneficiaries, the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Akwannuasah Gyimah, said the periodic disbursement to PWDs was an indication of the commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s commitment to the welfare, livelihood and well-being of the people.

He, therefore, asked the beneficiaries to put the items into good use so that the government would be encouraged to continue with the programme.

Social Welfare

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly Director for Social Welfare and Community Development, Dickson Frimpong, tasked the beneficiaries to put into good use the items they were receiving as start-ups for businesses they have been trained in.

One of the beneficiaries, Genevieve Asare, expressed appreciation to the Asokwa Social Welfare Department for the allocation.

"I am very grateful to the NPP government and Mama Pat for showing kindness to some of us and I am hopeful that these funds would help to cater for the health needs of my sick child," Madam Asare stated.

Another beneficiary, Daniel Opoku, who is a shoemaker, said the start-up items would enable him to operate at full strength since I now have all the tools to carry out my work.
