Bawumia takes bold solutions to Ablekuma North

The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, yesterday took his possibility tour to the Ablekuma North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region where he shared his “bold solutions” to the constituents and said it would help accelerate the development process and improve lives. 

Dr Bawumia whose tour came on the heels of last Sunday’s engagement with the media, said the election in December was an election to determine the future of the country.

He listed a number of policies which failed under the government of former President John Mahama including the cancellation of the nurses and teacher training allowances, lack of chalk for schools, collapse of the NHIS, and said under the current government, the training allowances had been restored.

NPP success

He said the government had improved the NHIS while some ailments which were not covered by the scheme such as kidney dialysis and sickle cell had all been added.

Dr Bawumia sought the support of the chiefs and people and said he intended to help reduce the cost of electricity by bringing on board 2000 megawatts of solar power.

He also shared his vision to improve businesses and create jobs, saying his women's trade empowerment fund and bank for small and medium-scale enterprises would help empower and boost the businesses of women.

The meeting was with Christian and Moslem Clergy, traditional leaders, representatives of transport unions, some residents and party faithful.

Among the team accompanying the Vice-President were the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, the Campaign Manager, Fred Opare Ansah, a member of the NPP, Kwadwo Nsafoa Poku, the NPP parliamentary aspirant for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, the Parliamentary aspirant for Weija Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib and a former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong.

Earlier, the NPP flag bearer took time to interact with enthusiastic traders and pedestrians at the Odorkor lorry station, Malam market and vehicle and spare parts hub at Kokompe in Darkuman.

Policies

The NPP flag bearer also touched on a number of policies he intended to introduce including his proposed flat tax system and the introduction of the tax amnesty as part of his plans to widen the tax net and also make the payment of tax enticing.

He explained the gold for oil policy and also assured the gathering that he would not allow the introduction of the practice of the LGBTQ+.

The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, Sheila Bartels, introduced the current Parliamentary aspirant, Akua Afriyieh, to the crowd and said she had done her part as MP and it was time for the new candidate to also come and continue.

Ms Bartels called for unity and urged her supporters to rally behind the parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyieh, and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Parliamentary aspirant, Akua Afriyieh, for her part, appealed to the chiefs, imams, elders and the various stakeholder gathered to support her, Dr Bawumia and the party to win the December 7, 2024 elections.
