A presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has stressed that his major preoccupation as a President will be to reduce unemployment to the barest minimum.
As an entrepreneur with many factories employing 7,750 workers, he said he had the potential to create more employment avenues to absorb many unemployed youth.
Mr Agyapong gave the assurance when he addressed NPP delegates, polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, former Municipal Chief Executives, past and current constituency officials of the party at Akyem Oda as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
Business acumen
He emphasised that the NPP needed a presidential candidate with business acumen and exemplary leadership qualities who could defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the 2028 general election.
Mr Agyapong thanked the Oda Constituency NPP delegates for voting overwhelmingly for him in 2023 and expected them to improve upon that proud performance on January 31, 2026, to qualify him as the party’s flag bearer in 2028.
He, however, cautioned the delegates not to allow themselves to be influenced by monetary inducement to make the wrong choice of voting for an aspirant who could not wrest power from the NDC in 2028.
Mr Agyapong noted that despite the abundant human and material resources, the country continued to face economic challenges due to the people’s inability to elect a tried and tested businessman as the President.
He promised to develop agriculture not only to create more jobs for the masses, but also to utilise it to increase the nation’s foreign exchange earnings.
Mr Agyapong noted that maize, coconut and oil palm production alone could create more jobs for Ghanaians.
He stated that he had acquired 30,000 acres of land at Adidome for agricultural purposes, which could create employment avenues for many people.
He promised to grant interest-free loans to people who would venture into large-scale agricultural production when elected as President in 2028.
Mr Agyapong stressed that his administration would ban the importation of essential commodities that could be produced on a large scale locally to conserve foreign exchange to be used for road infrastructure.
He advised the other NPP presidential aspirants not to resort to insults, vilification and character assassination against their competitors, as the NDC would use them as a weapon.
